FCT - Open Call - Stimulus to Individual Scientific Employment – 7th Edition

Expression of Interest 


The applications for the 7th edition of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus will be open from 30 September to 29 November 2024. This call is aimed at PhD holders of any nationality or stateless with a background in any scientific area who wish to develop their scientific research or technological development activity in Portugal. 

Applicants should indicate the host institution where they will develop their research plan. The selected doctorates are directly hired by the identified host institution, through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). 

The following reference levels are considered: 

  1. Junior Researcher: PhD holders for 5 years or less, counted as of the closing date of the application submission period, with reduced post-doctoral research experience in the scientific area to which they are applying. 
  2. Assistant Researcher: PhD holders at the closing date of the application submission period, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying.

The Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG) is a research and development (R&D) unit integrated in the Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território – IGOT (Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning Institute) of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa).

The CEG is associated with this initiative of FCT, as a host institution, offering all the conditions for doctorates interested in developing their scientific research activity within the areas of interest of the CEG.  We accept expressions of interest in research on the themes of our research groups (GIs): MIGRARE, MOPT, RISKAM, TERRITUR, ZEPHYRUS and ZOE. The candidate's work programme should fall within the research objectives and activities of the CEG and its GIs.

Candidates should express their interest by sending the following documentation to the CEG (ceg@igot.ulisboa.pt) by the 15th of October:

  1. Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae indicating 3 relevant publications;
  2. Summary of the work plan taking into account the terms of reference of the call (max. 5,000 characters);
  3. Indication of the Research Groups of the CEG (up to two) that the candidate would like to join;
  4. Statement of teaching availability up to 3 hours a week at IGOT-ULisboa;
  5. Indication of researcher reference level (junior, assistant).

Following approval by the CEG and IGOT, the CEG/IGOT will validate its association on the FCT platform between 2 and 11 December 2024.

Interested parties should check the eligibility conditions defined by the FCT, and are encouraged to contact the researchers in the CEG GIs that they consider the most appropriate to support the work programme.
