GreenCCircuit. Global circuits of second-hand clothing sales. Sustainability, greenwashing, and circular economy

The GreenCCircuit project, coordinated by Professor Pedro Guimarães of CEG/IGOT – University of Lisbon, is carried out in partnership with Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique (Professor Inês Raimundo), and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico (Professor José Gasca Zamora). Its main objective is to promote education for development through the analysis of global circuits of second-hand clothing, with a focus on sustainability, greenwashing, and the circular economy. The research includes fieldwork in local markets in Maputo and Mexico City, where practices of trading, reuse, and consumption of second-hand clothing are observed. In addition to examining the socio-economic and environmental impacts of this circulation, the project also seeks to contribute to a critical debate on practices within the textile sector and the limits of current circular economy strategies, particularly in the contexts of the Global South.
